Hindle Wakes
 Maurice Elvey / GB / 1927

HINDLE WAKES is IN THE NURSERY's fourth and latest soundtrack for classic silent films,
part of the acclaimed Optical Music Series. The new score captures the spirit and passion of the film
with a modern accompaniment designed to introduce new audiences to archives from the silent era.
The soundtrack combines elements of Air, This Mortal Coil and 1920's Dixie.

Set during 'wakes week' in a Lancashire mill town, HINDLE WAKES is based on
the vivid and controversial play by Stanley Houghton.
A celebration of the financial and sexual independence of Lancashire mill-girls in the late 1920s.

The film, with live accompaniment by IN THE NURSERY, received its premiere at the
Leeds International Film Festival 10th October 2000  - followed by a National Cinema Tour.
