Set during ‘wakes week’ in a Lancashire mill town Hindle

Wakes is based on the vivid and controversial play by

Stanley Houghton. Its tale of a strong minded girl and

families in crisis shocked the establishment and remains a

fascinating insight to the times and morals of the period.

IN THE NURSERY’s new score captures the spirit and passion

of the film with a modern accompaniment which once again

introduces new audiences to archives from the silent era.
