Stripped down to a nucleus of two, ITN's twin brothers Klive and Nigel
Humberstone set about recording their first full length album for Sweatbox.
Recording took place at Flexible Response Studio, Bradford and once again
featured Snake at the controls. With basic ideas and songs demo'd on a
Yamaha 4-track, the album developed through various stages of
experimentation with new technology. The title track `Twins' was special
in that the vocals were recorded on the twins 25th birthday - listen
closely and you can hear champagne corks popping! Rob Deacon, of Sweatbox,
also made his musical debut by slamming the studio's lift door, which ITN
then sampled and incorporated in the track. Mixing was carried out at a
studio in Driffield, along with extra vocal additions and cello (Gus
Ferguson). The studio produced good results and was later to become an
important recording facility for the band. `Twins' was also the first ITN
album to utilise the creative talents of Chris Bigg, designer at 23
Envelope/4AD. Chris continued working with the band until their label move
to Third Mind Records.
